Philadelphia Zoo announces death of oldest aardvark in US

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Zoo has announced the passing of the oldest aardvark in the United States.

AJ, a 28-year-old male aardvark, passed away due to heart failure, zoo officials said Wednesday.

AJ was born on November 4, 1988 at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

He arrived at the Philadelphia Zoo on November 15, 1989.

The aardvarks share an exhibit with the meerkats in the Small Mammal House.

The Zoo's female aardvark, Sunshine, is 12 years old.
