3 teen girls arrested in high school fight in Delaware that injured 4

DAGSBORO, Del. (WPVI) -- Three teens have been arrested in connection with a fight at a Delaware high school that left another student and three faculty members injured.

News outlets report the Delaware State Police said in a news release that three female students aged 17, 16 and 15 attacked a 17-year-old girl who was seated in the Indian River High School office on Monday.

Faculty members tried to break up the fight, placing the 17-year-old alleged aggressor in another room. Police said a staff member who tried to calm her down was pushed. Police say the 15-year-old pushed to the floor two male staff members who tried to remove her.

The 17-year-old victim was treated at a hospital for a head injury and facial cuts.

The three teens face charges, including rioting.

School Superintendent Mark Steele issued the following statement:

"As reported by the Delaware State Police, there was an altercation between students in the main office of Indian River High School on Monday morning, November 13. Several employees were involved in breaking up the fight, with three receiving minor injuries. In addition, one student was treated then released from a local hospital with minor injuries. The students involved in this incident will face significant disciplinary action in accordance with the district's discipline policy. We would like to thank the Delaware State Police and the Dagsboro Police Department for their assistance in this matter. I would also like to commend the employees who stepped in to break up the altercation and restore order. The safety of our students has always been the district's number one priority. This is evidenced by the presence of school safety monitors and School Resource Officers in our schools, along with the number of dedicated Indian River High School employees who intervened on Monday to protect students and staff. This was an isolated incident that was under control in a matter of minutes and we want parents to remain confident that our schools are providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for their children."
