Sir Elton John will be awarded next month for his philanthropic efforts to fight HIV and AIDS.
The singer is this year's recipient of Harvard University's Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award.
Previous awards have gone to such dignitaries as Archbishop Desmond Tutu and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
John calls the award both gratifying and tremendously humbling.
