Pick your New Year's song and time it perfectly to start 2018 the right way

Forget Auld Lang Syne, Twitter is rife with suggestions for songs to ring in 2018.


As we've popped the bubbly and watched the ball drop year after year, "Auld Lang Syne" has stood the test of time and graced New Year's celebrations for decades.

But if you're ready to ring in 2018 with a different kind of tune, folks on Twitter are sharing suggestions about how to time popular songs perfectly so that their most iconic lyric, riff or interlude hits exactly at midnight.

A search on the social network reveals hundreds of users timing their favorite songs backward, and all genres are represented. Because it's Twitter, there are predictably tons of options for Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Shawn Mendes fans.


There are throwback hits from artists like Phil Collins and Smash Mouth.


Somebody even timed a song from "High School Musical."


And for those who wish to stick to the classics and belt out a rousing rendition of "Auld Lang Syne," Mariah Carey and her version of the holiday standard have got you covered.
