SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - Caleer Miller's mother said her son was out playing basketball at the park before he went to 12th and Ritner streets Tuesday night.

When he didn't come home, she said she felt her worst nightmare coming true.

"I called the cops, and made a report and let them know he was missing," said Aishah George, Caleer's mother.

George said she waited for her 16-year-old son to come home, but instead homicide detectives arrived at her doorstep.

"I asked him 'Are you sure it was my boy?' said George. She said that is when the detective pulled a picture from his back pocket and her worst fear was confirmed.

Family, friends and classmates from Mastery Charter School gathered to remember the slain teen at a vigil Thursday night.

The violence allegedly started as an argument between a group of teens and ended with the children running for their lives
. Caleer Miller and Salvatore DiNubile did not make it.

"This young man is going to be very sorely missed," said Miller's dad.

A son, a big brother and a friend to all, his family is struggling to come to terms with his murder.

"He was just a good kid, he was a good, good child," said Dawn George, Miller's aunt. "Never in a thousand years did we think we'd be burying or planning his funeral with no answers."

Police tell Action News they have identified a person of interest in the crime.

Caleer would have turned 17 next month.

Anyone with information about the shooter is asked to contact police.
