Police chase ends in crash

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - April 5, 2008

Philadelphia Police say patrol officers noticed a Buick driving suspiciously at 62nd Street and Woodland Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia early Saturday morning.

When the 12th district officers tried to stop the car, the driver took off.

He travelled three blocks at a high rate of speed before losing control of the car. The vehicle crashed into a Volkswagon parked on the side of the road near the 12th police diistrict at 66th Street and Woodland.

The Volkswagon, which was unoccupied, went careening across the street and clipped a building. The suspect suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Police say they found a gun in his car.

Investigators are checking to see if he committed a series of recent robberies in the area.
