Funeral for slain mother today

NORRISTOWN - December 20, 2007

Funeral services are set for today.

The Kennedy Kendrick football team and others filed into the school to pray for the Giongo family.

The disturbing murder happened Saturday. Police say Joe Giongo became enraged with his wife Bernadette over a food order. He allegedly pummeled her to death while the couple's 7-year-old son Quinn watched in horror. His older brothers, 18-year-old Shane and 10-year-old Colin were not at home.

"They're hanging in there. Their family is there for them. They don't want to leave their grandmom," said the victim's brother Ray Mikalonis.

With their mom dead and their dad in jail, the boys were staying with their grandmother. Then last night, her home caught fire. The community quickly came together. Local contractors heard the family's plight and responded immediately. They fixed the roof and repaired the walls... A small gesture for a family hit with not one, but two tragedies.
