Man survives getting thrown from Jeep, run over by truck

NEWPORT, DELAWARE - December 31, 2007 Police said a 1995 Jeep Cherokee lost control at 2:30 Monday morning while traveling southbound on I-495, approaching the Route 141 off ramp.

The driver, 27-year-old James Stirparo of Shipley Road, was ejected. He landed in the center lane of travel of southbound I-495.

Several witnesses stopped to assist. As those drivers pulled off onto the shoulder and ran toward Mr. Stirparo, a tractor-trailer was approaching the scene.

Stirparo was attempting to get up to his knees when the truck then passed directly over top of him, somehow missing Stirparo entirely.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene and transported Stirparo to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted with a head injury. He was last listed in stable condition.

The tractor-trailer continued south and has not been located. The incident happened so fast, no one obtained any information about the rig.

Troopers cited Stirparo with DUI, expired tags and failure to have insurance identification.
