Pa. civic leader killed in car crash

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - January 2, 2007

Ramos, 57, was driving on Interstate 80 in Luzerne County around 7:30 p.m. when his car swerved off the road and hit a tree, state police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ramos had worked for PPL Corp. for more than 30 years. In 2004 he moved from the Lehigh Valley to Shickshinny to serve as spokesman for PPL's Susquehanna nuclear power plant.

Ramos was a fixture among civic and business groups, serving on the state Board of Education, as a trustee for DeSales University, and as a founding member of the Hispanic Business Council. He helped draft a plan to boost academic performance in the Allentown School District.

His family came to Bethlehem from Puerto Rico when he was 7. He graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in management science.
