Stomach virus hits local hospital

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - January 8, 2008

The Transitional Skilled Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital's facility at 17th and Chew streets is closed to new admissions until the virus has run its course.

Employees and patients on the unit have come down with symptoms of fever, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Terry Burger is the hospital's director of infection control. She says Lehigh Valley has taken steps to avoid a hospital-wide outbreak, such as asking visitors to stay away from the unit, isolating sick patients and telling sick employees to stay home. The unit has also been disinfected.
