Moments later, a judge sentenced 41-year-old Samuel Funk of Falls Township to life in prison with no chance of parole.
Not even Funk's lawyer disputed that he killed his girlfriend, Jacqueline Goulding, last year. But Chief Deputy Public Defender Christina King argued that the jury should instead convict her client of voluntary manslaughter.
Funk got an additional 16 to 33 years in prison on the other charges following Tuesday's verdict. Judge Mitchell Goldberg described that additional time as insurance in case the law changes or Funk someday wins an appeal of his murder conviction.
