JC Penney ID info maybe compromised

January 18, 2008 Broadcast reports say we're talking about 650,000 customers of JC Penney alone.

GE Money handles credit card operations for Penney's and many other retailers. It says a computer tape is missing. Information on it includes Social Security numbers.

However, a GE Money spokesman says there was, "no indication of theft or anything of that sort."

So far, there is no evidence of fraudulent activity on the accounts involved. The company has been notifying consumers in batches.
