The boy, Kharon Mumford, was reported last night.
Investigators say his mother left him by himself yesterday afternoon at around four and went to work.
The mother told police her boyfriend was supposed to arrive at the house at 6 p.m.
When she returned from work at midnight, she says, neither the child nor her boyfriend was in the house.
Police say the mother called the boyfriend, who said he did not know she wanted him to babysit.
Kharon was at a relative's home and is apparently OK.
Police are going to reunite him with his mother. It does not appear that any criminal charges will be filed.
