Thieves strike Philly Outward Bound

PHILADELPHIA - January 23, 2008 The thieves didn't just steal camping supplies, but rather tools used to teach our area youth core principals like self reliance, service to others, and compassion.

Lizbet Luciano, a participant in the program, tells us, "It's a really good leadership building experience. It's a good way to find yourself when you're not around people you're usually around."

Luciano is one of roughly 2,500 young adults who, each year, get to enjoy the outdoors in what are essentially outdoor development camps.

Katie Patuszek runs Outward Bound in Philadelphia. She says the theft is a blow the program could ill afford. "This has been a difficult year for us because of the budget cuts from the school district. We lost 50-percent of our funding, which means we'll be able to server 700 less students this year," says Patuszek.

Patuszek and Luciano are hoping someone will help replace the stolen equipment so others will get a chance at life changing development.
