Temple beats crosstown rival Penn

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - January 23, 2008 Ryan Brooks added 14 points for the Owls (9-8), coached by Fran Dunphy, who is in his second season at Temple after coaching Penn for 17 years.

Tyler Bernardini had 16 second-half points for the Quakers (5-12). Jack Eggleston added 15.

Temple was in command throughout, and led 65-48 with 6:27 remaining. The Quakers then used a 9-2 run to close within 67-57, but Tyndale scored on a layup and Christmas hit a jumper to end the threat.

The Owls scored the first 12 points of the game, hitting on four straight 3-pointers, while Penn was turning the ball over three times.

The Owls raced to a 31-14 advantage on a 3-pointer by Chris Clark. After Penn scored five straight points, Temple used a 10-3 run to take a 41-22 lead at the half.
