Consumer group calls for Botox warnings

Washington, D.C., January 25, 2008

Public Citizen says its analysis of Food and Drug Administration records show 16 people died after injections with Botox or Myo-bloc, its medical counterpart.

The group says 4 were under the age of 18, and that some reactions were from unapproved, or "off label" uses of the drug.

However, only 1 was a person getting the Botox for cosmetic reasons.

The medication is used fro a variety of conditions, from wrinkles to relieving tight neck muscles.

One expert who researched the drug says Botox is safe - IF the doctor is well-trained.
