Fire engulfs testing lab

BELLMAWR, N.J. - January 30, 2008

The fire broke out at Ana Laboratories at 641 Creek Road after 7:30 tonight. Drivers on Route called 911 after the smoke began drifting over the highway.

Heavy fire was showing on arrival and a second alarm was struck. A third alarm was sounded abuot an hour later. Burning chemicals set off several mini-explosions during the intense fire inside the building.

Ana Labs is a business that has been in Bellmawr for many years. It's a 24-hour lab where technicians test oil, grease and fuel.

At this point, the Camden County Fire Marshall is not certain what caused the fire.

It's not clear how many employees were inside at the time. Officials said only one person suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters contained the flames to the business where it started. A firewall actually protected other businesses that share the building. The fire was declared under control just before 10:00.

The big challenge for HAZMAT crews has been testing the water quality to make sure it's safe for residents.
