An afternoon walk in Fairmount Park nearly ended in tragedy Sunday. A person was walking along Kelly Drive, near Sedgely when they were hit by an out of control car!

The car's driver had been headed westbound. The vehicle crossed all lanes of traffic, hit a light pole, a garbage can, then struck the victim. The driver kept going, then ditched the car near the Girard Avenue Bridge, and took off on foot. He has not been caught.

Police tell Action News officers had been pursuing that car earlier for an unknown reason, but the chase was called off about 10 minutes before the crash.

The pedestrian who was struck was taken to Hahnemann Hospital, and is being treated for what are thought to be non-life threatening injuries.
