An isobar is a line of constant barometric pressure. Isobars are the very thin lines on a surface map.

Erica's Answer:

Isobars also help meteorologists figure out the wind speed and direction at different locations. When the isobars are plotted on a map, they help tell the story of the weather. For instance, when isobars are very close together, you can expect strong, gusty winds!
