Fight over control of Spears' estate resumes

February 14, 2008 As of right now Jamie Spears, Britney Spears' father, has control of her estate. He wants the court to extend his temporary conservatorship, something Spears herself opposes.

The judge will also consider a request by Spears' father to have her manager Howard Grossman fired.

According to court documents that were released Monday, attorneys for Jamie Spears say Grossman violated court orders by providing the pop star with a Mercedes after she was released from a psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Center.

Paparazzi followed Spears and swarmed the car as she cruised around L.A. and Beverly Hills. That car and another one were supposed to be delivered to her father after Britney was deemed unfit to care for herself and manage her finances.

Britney has been hospitalized twice in recent weeks.

Attorneys for Jamie Spears say Grossman also violated court orders by arranging for her to meet with an attorney without her father's permission.

Meantime, the attorney who is representing Britney in her child custody battle wants off the case. He has cited communication problems with Spears in the past.

On Thursday afternoon a judge is going to be taking up the issue of temporary conservatorship. Britney is not expected to be in court for the hearing.
