The three-alarm fire struck the Ninth Street building shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday. The man who died lived on the third floor. A firefighter was burned on the leg and 22 people were displaced by the blaze.
Authorities are not releasing the name of the man pending an autopsy and notification of relatives. The firefighter was treated at Sacred Heart Hospital and released.
State and local investigators are trying to find out what started the blaze.
