DRPA helping to fund Chester stadium

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - February 20, 2008 The bistate agency approved the funding at its meeting Wednesday. Members shifted the money from another project.

The money will now go toward infrastructure improvements in Chester. The struggling Philadelphia suburb is in the running for a Major League Soccer franchise.

Gov. Ed Rendell said last month that Pennsylvania would provide $47 million toward the cost of building a stadium, as well as offices and housing nearby.

DRPA officials say their money will go toward the surrounding development, not the stadium.
