Small plane crash near Princeton

MONTGOMERY, N.J - February 21, 2008

The plane crashed shortly before noon in a wooded area about 100 yards from the runway, Montgomery Township Police Director Michael Beltranena said.

Beltranena said the single-engine plane carrying the couple from New York City was heading to Cape May. Authorities said it appears the plane lost power after takeoff.

The pilot, identified as Allan Christer, 59, suffered chest injuries and broke his ankle, authorities said. His wife, Sybille Christer, 43, was treated for possible neck and back injuries. Both were taken to area hospitals.

The state Department of Transportation's Division of Aeronautics and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
