Teen charged for loaded gun in school

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - February 22, 2008 Police say the boy, a freshman at the school, hid the .45 caliber weapon in his backpack and sneaked in through a side or back door of the school to avoid the metal detectors at the main door.

The weapon was loaded with illegal hollow-pointed, Teflon-coated bullets, police say.

A police spokeswoman says a security guard stopped the boy because he was acting suspicious. He was taken to the Camden County juvenile detention center.

School Board President Sara Davis tells the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill that she believes students in the school are safe. ---
