Philly taxi fares going up

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - February 25, 2008 It will still cost $2.70 at the beginning of a cab ride, what's known as the "flag drop." But it will be $2.30 per mile after that, up from $2.10 now. The charge for waiting time is going up too.

The board of the Philadelphia Parking Authority approved the new rates Monday. They go into effect June 2.

The head of the authority's Taxi and Limousine Division says it works out to an average 8 percent increase.
