Local wedding photographer arrested

WILLOW GROVE, Pa. - February 22, 2008

Steve and Susan Raab were free on bail hours after the prominent wedding and special occasion photographer and his wife surrendered to Lower Moreland Police.

He is charged with credit card theft and fraud. His wife is charged as a co-conspirator.

Police say it started at the Philmont Country Club on the night of February 2.

Steve Raab, 60, was hired to work a bat-mitzvah attended by 250 well wishers. Police say Raab stole a purse belonging to a guest, and then the couple allegedly went shopping the next day using a stolen credit card from that purse.

The affidavit says police have surveillance video of the couple making purchases including dog food and gasoline. Police say Steve Raab handed the card over when police confronted him.

The Raabs are now the subject of a wider police investigation to see if there's any pattern of credit card thefts at other events where they've been hired to take still pictures and video.

The Raabs have run a highly respected photography business in Northeast Philadelphia and in Bucks County for more than 30 years.

"There is no explanation. Sometimes people do stupid things," said their attorney, William Honig.

For the record, police and the district attorney's office say no other theft complaints that might involved the Raabs have come in so far.
