Interstate police chase ends in Center City

CENTER CITY - February 23, 2008 The chase began in Haddon Heights, New Jersey at the intersection of Kings Highway and Black Horse Pike around 3:30 Saturday afternoon. Police were attempting to serve a warrant on 30-year-old Timothy Casey of the 1600 block of Maple Avenue, who was wanted for delinquent child support in the amount of $8,200. However, Casey had no plans of cooperating with authorities.

Casey, driving a blue Ford Eurostar van, struck one officer in the leg and hit a patrol car as he sped off from the scene. The vehicle stormed out of Haddon Heights and through Mount Ephraim, Bellmawr, and Deptford before heading towards I-76 westbound and over the Walt Whitman Bridge.

After crossing into Pennsylvania, the suspect continued westbound on the Schuylkill Expressway, getting off at Montgomery Drive. He then tried escaping down Martin Luther King Drive back towards the Art Museum.

About an hour later and several counties after the chase began, police cruisers finally caught up with the van. They rammed the vehicle, causing it to crash near the Masonic Temple at Broad Street and Arch.

The suspect is now being checked for injuries at Hahnemann Hospital.

Throughout the course of the chase both New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Police were involved, along with Philadelphia Police and Delaware River and Bay Authority officers.

Casey is facing numerous assault charges from police agencies on both sides of the Delaware River.

Luckily, no officers were seriously injured in the chase.
