Rehoboth Beach eyes parking rate hike

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - February 25, 2008

City officials are considering raising the parking rate at the meters from $1 to $2 per hour, raising the rates for parking permits and extending the paid-parking season by two weeks.

Rehoboth City Councilman Paul Kuhns says the higher rates would help pay for new marking machines that accept credit cards. Critics say the increases could drive away downtown shoppers, but Kuhns does not expect a drop in business.

The proposed changes would be included in the city budget. City Manager Greg Ferrese expects a vote on the budget next month.
