Abducted woman found, suspect arrested

EAST MT. AIRY - February 25, 2008

The incident began at a home on the 900 block of Slocum Street was reported just after 11 a.m. Police say at least 2 men tied up and pistol-whipped a man in his 30s inside the home, then took a woman in her 50s captive.

Nearly three hours later, police found the suspect's vehicle as well as the abducted woman in Cheltenham Township.

Police said the men bailed out of the vehicle at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at Cheltenham Avenue and Ivy Hill Drive.

A foot pursuit ensued and at least one officer fired a weapon. They apprehended one man in the cemetery and cordoned off the cemetery in hopes of nabbing the second man. Police also brought in search dogs to scour the area.

No one was injured during the confrontation.

The woman was located about a block away at Cheltenham Avenue and Waverly Road. There is no immediate word regarding her condition.
