It happened just after midnight on Thursday on Belgrade Street near Montgomery Avenue in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia.
A man who police say was driving under the influence lost his temper while waiting for another man to move his double-parked car.
He honked for the other man to move the car.
The other man, who was out of his car, told the driver that he was an off-duty police officer and would only be a moment. Police say that explanation was not good enough for the driver.
Investigators say the driver slammed his car into the rear of the officer's car, then got out and punched the officer in the face. The officer managed to arrest the man.
The man faces DUI charges. The off-duty officer went to Episcopal Hospital to get treated for some cuts and bruises.
