Photos mailed in 1952 finally returned

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - February 28, 2008

Richard Lanshe mailed the photos to his parents in Wyomissing, Pa., from his overseas post with the U.S. Army. The envelope arrived at that destination last week.

A longtime Wyomissing resident directed the mail carrier to Lanshe's cousin in New Jersey. The cousin gave him Lanshe's address in Davie, where he moved in 1976.

The photos were sent to Florida by overnight express, but still arrived too late. Lanshe died in May. His daughter calls the envelope an opportunity to see fresh words and photos from her father.

U.S. Postal Service officials say they don't know why a package mailed 56 years ago would suddenly show up now.
