A statement from his office Monday says Fumo remains in the cardiac critical care unit of Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.
The statement also says Fumo has been awake and speaking with family and friends. But it says he will remain hospitalized indefinitely.
The 64-year-old Philadelphia Democrat is one of the most influential lawmakers in the state. He had a heart attack Sunday evening while eating dinner at his home.
Doctors determined he had total blockage of the right coronary artery. Fumo had an emergency coronary angioplasty and a metal stent inserted to restore normal blood flow.
