Philly zoo's lemur receives name

March 5, 2008 What is in a name?

If you are a certain lemur at the Philadelphia Zoo, you weren't sure until now because you did not have one. That is no longer the case.

Thanks to Philadelphia Zoo visitors, the Coquerel Sifaka lemur now has a name (and it's not Mr. Lemur).

Everyone say hello to Loka, pronounced Loo-ka, the newest addition to the zoo family.

So to go back to the original question- what is in the name Loka?

Loka in Malagasy, the language of Madagascar, means prize.

A prize, indeed, not only for the Philadelphia Zoo, which is only the fourth zoo in the country to breed this species, but a prize for all the visitors, who can now take a 'look-a' at Loka.
