Senator Fumo upgraded after heart attack

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - March 5, 2008 - A statement from the democratic senator's office says Fumo has been out of his hospital bed for brief periods and experienced no further chest pain Tuesday.

Fumo has been at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia since suffering the heart attack Sunday night and undergoing emergency surgery. He is one of the most powerful lawmakers in the state.

Dr. Daniel McCormick says Fumo is being transferred from the cardiac critical care unit to a regular room. There is still no projected date for his release from the hospital.
