King made the comments to the Daily Reporter newspaper in Spencer. He says the comments aren't meant to demean Obama but to warn how an Obama presidency would look to the world.
Obama, born in Hawaii to a white Kansas woman and a Kenyan man, is a Christian. An Obama spokesman says King's comments "have no place in politics" and should be repudiated by the apparent Republican nominee, John McCain.
