Say hello to the NEW five-dollar bill!

WASHINGTON (AP) - March 13, 2008 The new five-dollar bill comes out today, bearing the traditional image of the 16th president, but with some touches of color added to foil counterfeiters.

The government is shipping the bills to banks, which then distribute the money to businesses and eventually into the hands of the public.

Fittingly, the first of the new fives will be spent today in the gift shop of what is known as President Lincoln's Cottage, a house where he frequently stayed on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington.

The old fives will remain in circulation until they wear out.

The makeover is similar to changes to the 10s, 20s and 50s already in use.

Up next: a new look for the hundred-dollar bill.
