Police say a 22-year-old New Castle-area woman lost control of her car while driving west on Commons Boulevard striking a tree. They say the woman's 18-month-old daughter was taken to Christiana Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
The mother was conscious and alert at the scene and was taken to the hospital, but police say no further information is available.
The department's accident reconstruction team is investigating the crash. Police say the cause of the crash is not known and it's not clear if alcohol was a factor.
