It happened about 1 a.m. when police say the man was talking to his cousin in the parking lot of Tailgates Sports Bar in the 4100 block of Stanton Ogletown Road.
The staff had asked the men to leave after they got into an argument inside. While the men were in the parking lot, police say a small blue car pulled up and a man got out and fired two shots.
The victim was shot once, and his cousin drove him to Christiana Hospital.
Troopers interviewed the victim at the hospital before he went into surgery.
