Man charged in veteran grave robberies

MILLVILLE, N.J. (AP) - March 22, 2008 They arrested 47-year-old Edward Wentz this week. On March 6 he tried to sell 11 markers to a recycling company for $500.

An employee at Cumberland Recycling called police after Wentz said he would bring documentation that the markers belonged to him but never did.

Ten of the markers were later determined to have come from military graves at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Washington Township.

In a separate case earlier this month, federal authorities are investigating how hundreds of gravestones from a veterans' cemetery ended up in a yard in Burlington Township.
