It was just before 10:30 when a barking dog alerted neighbors. Firefighters were on the scene in seconds.
Deputy Chief Alan Brown says, "When the fire department pulls up, heavy smoke was coming from the dwelling."
Neighbor John Hensley tell Action News, "(Firefighters) were here right away … By the time they got here though it was too late."
Those firefighters discovered the victim's body inside. Two firefighters went to the hospital with minor injuries. One suffered a sprained ankle and the other a burn to the face.
Authorities did not officially confirm the victim's identity, but neighbors told us the homeowner, a man in his early 60's, had lived there alone since his mother died last year. Those neighbors presumed it was the homeowner who died in this Easter Sunday blaze.
The fire marshal will now work to figure out where and exactly how this fire started. The medical examiner will determine how the victim died.
