Former teachers union leader admits stealing

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - March 24, 2008 Claraliene Gordon admitted stealing money from the Camden Education Association by using the credit card for more than $1,000 in personal expenses.

The plea deal for the 66-year-old Gordon, announced Monday, envisions a probationary term and restitution of $3,000 on a charge of misapplication of entrusted property.

Prosecutors say Gordon used the card at various Atlantic City casinos on 26 occasions, racking up nearly $15,000 in expenses.

After being confronted by union officials, Gordon repaid nearly $7,500.

Gordon led the union from 2000 to 2006. She now lives in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
