Route 1 open after big rig collision

CONCORD TWP., Pa. - March 25, 2008

The collision happened just before 8 a.m. in Concord Township, Delaware County.

The big rigs ran into each other along Route 1 near Cheyney Road, and knocked down a traffic light and some power lines. The collision also sent trash onto the road.

As of 11 a.m., the southbound lanes of the highway remained closed. The northbound lanes of Route 1 were closed for about 2 hours.

One of the drivers was trapped by the power line that fell onto his truck. There are no reports of injuries.

Officials hope to have all lanes of Route 1 reopened around noon.
