DiGirolamo returned to New Jersey

HOPEWELL, N.J. - March 25, 2008 Thirty-three-year-old Rosario DiGirolamo of Millstone was arrested by authorities in New York last Thursday.

The married father, who was keeping 2 families, will be held at the Mercer County Correctional Facility in Hopewell while he faces charges he murdered his mistress, 27-year-old Amy Giordano of Hightstown.

Digirolamo's attorney Jerry Ballarotto said, "He wants to come back here and defend these charges. He waived extradition because he's an innocent man."

Police believe that skeletal remains fished out of a pond in Staten Island over the last 2 days belong to the missing mom who was last seen in June.

On a MySpace page called Amysmissing, photos of Giordano and her young son Michael play continuously.

Police may have to wait for DNA analysis to conclude the remains in the pond are Amy's, but friends are already convinced. They're leaving messages saying, "I hope you didn't suffer or feel any pain."

Another writes, "I hope this guy rots in jail. I miss you so much. Rest in Peace."

Also charged with tampering in this case is DiGirolamo's friend and best man at his wedding, John Russo of Staten Island. He helped lead police to the pond and a suitcase containing remains. Action News talked with his lawyer by phone, but he offered no comment on how Russo knew the location of the pond or the suitcase.

His lawyer says Russo is angry with DiGirolamo for involving him in this mess and is especially offended because when DiGirolamo abandoned Michael, the baby he had with Amy Giordano, at a parking lot in Delaware. DiGirolamo left a note calling the child John Vincent. Those are the names of Russo's sons and DiGirolamo is Godfather to one of them.

Russo is set to surrender to authorities on Thursday.

Rosario DiGirolamo arrived back in Mercer County early Tuesday nght. No court date for him has been set as of yet.
