Vioxx settlement deadline extended

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - March 25, 2008

An outside attorney for Merck - Doug Marvin - told U.S. District Judge Eldon Fallon on Tuesday that claims are coming in every day to the firm appointed to administer them, BrownGreer PLC.

And he says some law firms are still working on their claims.

He says Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based Merck has agreed to put off the deadline until May 1st.

Orran Brown of BrownGreer says about 49,000 peopple have been found eligible for the settlement, and more than 46,000 have sent in at least some of the required paperwork.
