Police said the boy took the gun from a dresser drawer and placed it inside his book bag last night.
When he arrived at Mann Elementary School in West Philadelphia this morning, he gave the gun to his teacher.
The teacher notified school administrators who contacted Philadelphia Police.
No charges have been filed, but the investigation is continuing.
