Water problems hamper firefighters

SALEM, N.J. - March 26, 2008

Police in Salem, New Jersey, spotted the flames in a building just across the street from the fire department around 11:30 p.m. at the Family Dollar Store. It's located on the 100 block of 5th Street.

The flames spread quickly, bringing down part of the roof and jumping into an adjacent business. The Dollar Dream store and a farmers market were hit by the fire.

Firefighters tell Action News that severe water problems hampered the firefighting efforts.

More than a dozen fire companies responded, including some from Wilmington, Delaware.

Early indications are that the fire started in a storage area of the Family Dollar store.

The only injury reported was a firefighter who suffered a broken finger.
