The shooting happened in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion section just before 8 p.m.
Officers were answering the call to a report of shots fired at 30th and Lehigh when they confronted 2 men. Police say one of them pointed a gun at the officers, and they opened fire.
The man was shot in the leg and rushed to Temple Hospital in critical but stable condition. He died overnight.
