The call came out around 10:15 p.m. along the 6200 block of Woodland Avenue.
Once on the scene, firefighters found the 3-story brick building inundated with smoke and flames. When they managed to get to the third floor, they found the body of a 70-year-old man.
Two other residents were able to get out in time.
Investigators say there were no smoke alarms inside the building.
