Delaware man with Alzheimer's missing

NEWARK, DEL. - April 4, 2008 Police were called to Thompson's home on Thursday (4/3) at 10:47 p.m., where his adult son reported that Thompson father had not been seen for several hours. The son advised that Mr. Thompson had been visiting an ill family member at the Christiana Hospital earlier in the day, but left the hospital at 8:30 p.m. and was supposed to be returning home.

New Castle County Police say Thompson may have been seen near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Maryland today, where he had run out of gas. A concerned citizen assisted him, providing him with two gallons of gas. Thompson indicated he was trying to get back to Wilmington and the citizen told him he needed to turn around and head north. After observing Mr. Thompson continuing south the person stopped him and again told him he needed to change direction. The person then exited the highway but last saw Mr Thompson continuing south.

Mr. Thompson has not been seen since and his son advised that he suffers from Alzheimers and frequently gets disoriented and loses his way. Mr. Thompson should be operating his 2000 silver/gray Toyota Corolla bearing Delaware registration HP5345. Mr. Thompson is 5'10", 170 lbs, has gray hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing blue jeans.

If anyone sees Mr. Thompson or knows where he is, they are asked to contact their local authorities, or the New Castle County Police at 302-573-2800.
