Misfired artillery crashes into New Jersey home
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - April 12, 2008 A wayward artillery shell fragment crashed through the roof of a
family's home miles away, fatally injuring the pet.
Picatinny Arsenal officials will investigate how the 2-pound
piece of artillery fired from the base ended up crashing into the
home Friday afternoon.
The hot metal landed on the bed of the family's 10-year-old
daughter. The girl wasn't home, but the family cat was injured and
had to be euthanized.
The base commander says he visited the home Friday night and
apologized.
